This first module of the hazardous materials transportation for highway training explains the DOT HMR and covers the nine hazard classes and divisions for hazmat substances.

Module 2: Hazardous Materials Table

The second module explores the details of the DOT Hazardous Materials Table (HMT) in 49 CFR Part 172. Lessons will explain how to interpret the information in columns 1-10 of the DOT Hazardous Materials Table, as well as how to use the information in Appendices A and B to prepare packages for transport.

Module 3: Shipping Papers

This module covers the HMR requirements for DOT hazmat shipping training. This module covers pertinent information on dangerous goods labels and DOT hazmat labeling requirements for highway transportation of hazardous materials.

Module 7 discusses the DOT placarding requirements and the importance of using hazmat placards when transporting hazardous materials by highway.

Module 8: Carrier Requirements-Highway

This module covers the compliance requirements of the DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) for shipping hazardous materials by highway. Lessons explore the general requirements for transporting dangerous goods by public highways, with particular emphasis on shipping papers, training requirements for different types of hazmat cargo carriers, loading and unloading hazardous material shipments, segregation requirements for hazardous materials, and procedures to follow in case of an accident or emergency.

Module 9: Security Awareness

This final module of the DOT Hazmat Transportation Supervisor course focuses on the DOT security awareness training requirements, emphasizing the importance of developing and maintaining a security plan and the steps organizations can take to keep their hazardous materials cargo, and employees safe while in transit.
